READJUST Collaborates with Helsinki Region Transport to Advance a Just Transition in Logistics
The READJUST project continues to expand its European collaborations to ensure that green and digital transitions in the mobility sector are just and inclusive. As part of the project’s mobility case study, READJUST is focusing on the logistics sector – where a fair and inclusive shift to alternative propulsion systems, such as biogas and electric vehicles, is a pressing challenge.
To address these challenges, READJUST researchers Anu Tuominen, Anton Sigfrids and Tiina Tuominen from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. are collaborating with the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) in the Helsinki region of Finland. The discussion on alternative propulsion system vehicles is particularly relevant at the time as HSL, together with other key actors in the region, prepares the Helsinki Region Transport System Plan for 2027. The plan will serve as the region’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) required under the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) regulation, which sets the framework for developing low-carbon and connected transport networks across Europe.
The collaboration with READJUST kicks off this year with a survey of logistics companies to identify their needs and obstacles for alternative propulsion system transition. Following this, VTT will organise stakeholder co-creation workshops in 2026 to develop solutions and policy recommendations that support a just transition. Other key stakeholders supporting the research include Tampere University, the MADLESS project (Meta-Analysis Driven Logistics Emission Solutions through Stakeholder Collaboration) at the City of Helsinki, the Finnish Transport and Logistics SKAL, and The Association of Logistic Enterprises in Finland.
Insights from the Helsinki collaboration will deepen understanding of how the transition to alternative propulsion systems affects logistics operations and regional dynamics. These findings will support READJUST’s broader work to advance a fair and sustainable transformation of Europe’s mobility systems.
